To support student-led activities, the department has established a set of criteria for student groups to gain formal affiliation with the department. Currently, the following seven student organizations have formal affiliation with our department.
A&A CubeSat Team
The A&A CubeSat Team (AACT) is an organization of faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students working together to design, build, and test CubeSats. Our mission is to teach students the fundamentals of space systems and provide a hands-on experience that complements academic work.

American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)
The nonprofit American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is the principal society and voice serving the aerospace profession. Our purpose is to ignite and celebrate aerospace ingenuity and collaboration, and its importance to our way of life. The AIAA UW student chapter connects current students to the AIAA pacific northwest section and to the national AIAA organization.

Design, Build, Fly at UW
Student teams will design, fabricate, and demonstrate the flight capabilities of an unmanned, electric powered, radio controlled aircraft which can best meet the specified mission profile. The goal is a balanced design possessing good demonstrated flight handling qualities and practical and affordable manufacturing requirements while providing a high vehicle performance.<

Society for Advanced Rocket Propulsion (SARP)
The Society for Advanced Rocket Propulsion (SARP) is a group of students at the University of Washington that has come together to design, build, test, and launch high powered rockets. Our mission is to develop reusable liquid bipropellant and solid rocket technology as well as to apply scientific and engineering theory with hands-on experience.

Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS)
Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) is a UW chapter of a national student organization pursuing engineering challenges and competitions including rocket design and build, space policy, connecting opportunities and networking within the industry. We want to empower all students, regardless of their major, to learn about space and create the solutions for the challenges it poses.

Women in Aerospace at the University of Washington (WoA)
The Women in Aerospace club will provide a forum to discuss diversity issues in the field of aerospace engineering, and organize outreach programs to encourage young women to pursue careers in aero/astro. Club membership is open to all UW students, regardless of gender identity.
